I have experience working with people across the developmental lifespan - senior couples and young parents, adolescents to elders. I lived in NYC, Los Angeles, Chicago, New Orleans, and Florida prior to settling in Iowa, along with extensive international travel. This informs my ability to recognize and affirm the special mix of cultural beliefs and experiences that make you unique. I create an environment that is universally welcoming, and I particularly appreciate the opportunity to support members of LGBTQ+ communities.

My approach is driven by the fundamental belief that every person is the hero of their own story. Our sessions will integrate the future-focused hope of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy with the deep, metaphor-rich exploration of Symbolic Experiential Therapy. Together, we will investigate the life you have lived, the life you are living, and the life you imagine. Our work together is active. We might use role-play, vivid metaphors, or a little bit of absurdity to help you break out of old patterns and experiment with new ways of being.

Prior to becoming a therapist, I’ve spent nearly 30 years as a professional writer and theatre artist. I know firsthand what it means to navigate major life transitions and I bring that deep empathy, vulnerability, and lived experience into the therapy room. In my free time, you can find me playing with my children, singing in a cover band with my wife, or searching for the perfect metaphor.
