Supervision, Consultation, and Training

As a mental health professional, a supportive community and expert guidance is essential to your practice and well-being. Dr. Mielke offers self-as-therapist supervision groups and consultation and trainings for working with men and masculinity in therapy to support therapists at all stages of their professional journey.

Self-as-Therapist Supervision Group

Clinical training, supervision, and consultation often focuses on the "doing" of therapy, often at the cost of reflecting on the experience of "being" as a therapist. This group is an opportunity for therapists to do just that. Supervisees in this group are invited to take a step back from the daily pressures of our profession and consider their own experience as healers in a supportive, structured environment.

What

  • A monthly, small-group supervision experience focused on the self of the therapist — how your own history, reactivity, values, and personhood show up in the room and shape the work

  • Not case consultation in the usual sense: the emphasis is on the clinician's use of self, not just the client's presentation

  • A place to bring the stuck moments, the strong reactions, and the cases that follow you home

Who

  • Facilitated by Anthony Mielke, DMFT, LMFT — Iowa Registered Supervisor and AAMFT Approved Supervisor

  • Open to graduate students, pre-licensed therapists, and fully licensed clinicians

  • Limited to 6 participants per group

When & Where

  • 2 hours, 9:00–11:00 a.m.

  • Meets monthly, on the second and fourth Fridays

  • Two groups available: one at the Iowa City office, one at the Cedar Rapids office

  • $100 per session

Men and Masculinity Consultation and training

Cultural norms, previous experiences, and preconceived notions about therapy can make it difficult for men to start and stay in therapy. Through 15 + years experience working men and boys, academic studies, and clinical presentations both nationally and internationally, Dr. Mielke has developed unique perspectives and strategies to support therapists experiencing challenges with men and boys in therapy. He offers individual and group consultations for therapists, and trainings for clinical practices and mental health agencies.
